Dim Sum - Yum Cha @ Serangoon Gardens Country Club

Supposed heart-shape mango pudding, tail end bitten off by my daughter.

Instead of the usual peanuts and pickled vegetables as appetizers, we had toufu.

Yum Cha Menu

Tried at this branch for the first time.

Parking - There's roadside parking that is free on Sunday and just outside the lobby along the road but these are pretty limited. You can't park in the club at the basement as it's for members only however the restaurant provides valet parking.

Ambience - I was plesantly surprised to find that its pretty spacious inside, you can at least 30 tables I guess but I do find the place a bit chilly, I'll remember to bring a sweater the next time. Chinese decor, simple and pleasant.

Food - Food wise, not too bad. We had dim sum so ordered quite a variety. We had carrot cake, fried silver fish (a bit oily though), ha gao, char siew bao, chee cheong fun, egg tarts, siew mai, lotus leaf rice etc. the ususal dim sum stuff but what I think they do best are the prawns. Some of the items we ordered had prawns in them and they were done well, the size of the prawns were just nice and fresh. So anything with prawns would be a good choice.

Desserts -Desserts were okay, nothing particularly stood out but the hot hashima I had was a bit too sweet!

Price - Bill for 11 adults and 2 kids, $260+... okay but compared to the steamboat + chicken rice dinner we had at 7th Storey at Marina Barrage for the same number of people which was $207, dim sum was certainly a more expensive affair and occupied less stomach space.

Service - Oh yes, the service was good even though it was a pretty busy Sunday, the staff were attentive and efficient so kudos to them.

And as usual, was busy eating and forgotten to take pictures of most of the dim sum... mmm

Dinner was delicious!

Garlic stir fry cauliflower with snow peas and baby corn. My daughter's favourite!

How the meal looks like. Favourite dish amongst the family? split votes. My son is a carnivore and daughter more like herbivore!

Chinese wine duck soup with preserved vegetables. Can be a bit more salty but the meat is very tender!

Sweet and sour chicken: marinate with pepper, deep fried, sauce is a mixture of chilli and ketchup. My son loves it as he is a major meat eater, very un-green!

what to eat today?

I am excited today, finally starting my first food blog, after thinking about it for 2 years! What a great example in the art of procrastination.

Never mind, it's better late than never.

So how shall I reward my tummy and my families' tummies today?

Here's the menu that I have drawn up for home cook dinner tonight:
a) Chinese wine duck soup
b) Stir fry cauliflower with sweet peas and baby corns
c) Sweet & sour chicken
d) Steam pomfret fish garnish with ginger and spring onions

So now I'll start cooking and see how it turns out.

Cheers
